The two-to-one rule holds in both systems, but the units are not the same size. A US pint is 473 ml, while an imperial pint is 568 ml, about 1.2 times as much.

That means a British quart holds 40 fluid ounces of the imperial kind, where a US quart holds 32 fluid ounces.

The US also keeps a separate set of dry measures for certain dry goods. NIST Handbook 44 lists the dry quart as larger than the liquid quart, and it still divides into two dry pints.
