If your slow cooker or stockpot is rated in quarts and the recipe gives liters, convert the pot size first. A 6 qt slow cooker holds 5.678 L, and a 5.5 qt Dutch oven holds 5.205 L.

The rated size is the pot filled to the brim, so leave room at the top. A recipe that makes 5 L of soup needs more than a 5 qt pot, because five liters come to 5.283 qt.
