Starbucks Cup Sizes: How Many Ounces Is a Grande?

On the Starbucks list of cup sizes, Venti is the only name with two sizes. The hot Venti holds 20 fl oz, while the cold Venti holds 24 fl oz, so the cold cup is 1.2 times the size of the hot one.

In kitchen terms, a hot Venti is 2.5 cups and a cold Venti is 3 cups. When a recipe, a calorie count or a friend mentions a Venti, check whether they mean the hot cup or the iced one.

The Trenta is the largest Starbucks cup, and it is for cold drinks only. The Starbucks customer service page lists it for Teavana Shaken Iced Tea, Shaken Iced Tea Lemonade, Iced Coffee, Cold Brew and Starbucks Refreshers.

Starbucks gives two sizes for this cup. Its menu pages, such as the one for Iced Coffee, list the Trenta as 30 fl oz, while its customer service page lists 31 fl oz.

Either way, a Trenta is a little under a liter (litre): 887 ml by the menu figure or 917 ml by the customer service figure.

A bigger cup does not always mean more espresso. On the Starbucks menu, a hot Caffè Latte gets 2 shots in both the Grande and the hot Venti, so the extra room in the Venti is not extra coffee.

An iced Venti latte is different: it gets 3 shots. A hot Caffè Americano adds a shot at every step, from 1 in a Short to 4 in a Venti. The table shows the default shots listed on each drink's menu page.

Starbucks gives its cup sizes in US fluid ounces. The milliliter figures on this page are our conversions from those ounces, not figures published by Starbucks.

One US fluid ounce is 29.57 ml, so a Tall is about 355 ml and a hot Venti about 591 ml. A UK fluid ounce is slightly smaller, at 28.41 ml, so always convert Starbucks sizes as US ounces. The ounces to milliliters converter does the math for any size.
